On February 3rd 2015 President Beverly Warren gave a public account of what she’s learned after completing her 28 campus listening tour in December of 2014. The tours were put in place by Dr. Warren to help learn where Kent is both succeeding and also needing improvements.
She held open forum conversations on various Kent State campuses with students, alumni, faculty and staff, and even parents to hear personal accounts of what Kent means to every kind of individual and also get a better understanding of the already strong community she will be leading.
From what was heard on the listening tours she pulled 5 major points of focus for the development of 2015’s plan of action. Those being: continuing efforts to create a “Student-Focused” university environment, defining and communicating a distinctive Kent State identity, Increasing Kent State’s global competitiveness, Leveraging Kent State’s global reach for local impact, and creating a plan for a sustainable and vibrant Kent State University.
She made a point to take note of any reoccurring topics in the talks such as diversity and proper mentoring to include them in the 2015 mission. Ending her speech with a small play on the words from the Wizard of Oz, “There’s no place like Kent State”; It’s clear that President Beverly Warren is dedicated to creating a learning environment that facilitates, retains, values and graduates students who have reached their full potential.
