Tour Guides Make a Difference for Admissions

Spring is here, and that means that thousands of perspective students will be coming to campus to visit. TV2’s own Kim Anderson has an inside look on the people who are actually giving these tours.

“I love being real with them, not having a rehearsed script is great because you can actually answer their questions and field their concerns.”

On a weekly basis, she gives tours to perspective families who are interested in coming to Kent State. Besides all of the facts and information she includes on her tours, her passion is really talking with students. The tour guide program is set up to give students a “day in the life” of an average student.

But, the tour program isn’t just helpful to the students and their families that are actually taking the tour. It also benefits the university’s admissions department.

Brian Crescenzo is the Assistant Director of Admissions. He viewed the campus tour guides as a group that makes a huge impact on students who are in the process of deciding which college to attend. He said “they can make or break a decision” and that through a study they did close to 75% of students who come to a campus visit end up going to school here.

Overall, Abrianna thinks that the tour guide program is a “great public speaking experience” and encourages anyone to apply.
