Library prepares for exam week, stress-free zones set up

The library is preparing for exam week just as much as students.  Stress free zones will be set up Monday and Tuesday – with a few added extras this semester.  TV2’s Robert Carroll has the story.

It has come to that time of year again – final exams before  a nice, long summer break for many students.  This means the library is in action – helping to lower the stress of finals week with stress-free zones May 5 and 6.

Jasmine Jefferson, Director of the Stress-Free zone, said the library events always helps students have some fun.

“We are always looking for ways to improve our events and make them more engaging for students,” said Jefferson.  Jefferson has been working for the library since 2004, when she was still a undergraduate.

Jasmine Jefferson has worked for the library ten years. Never did she imagine eventually being in charge of helping the students she once was during exam weeks.

“It’s just a great way to get away from studying, and hang out with your friends,” said Jefferson.

Kent Burhanna, Associate Dean for Engagement at University Libraries, said the stres-free zones are most populous of all events.

“We try to make sure students know we are there for them when it comes to their school work, and exams,” said Burhanna.

The library – being one of the more underused resources on campus – is often most busy toward the end of each semester, according to Jim Bracken, Dean of University Libraries, in a interview earlier this year.

The stress-free zones feature therapy dogs for petting, free food and refreshments, and an enjoyable atmosphere for the typical tensed-up college student from final exams.

There is no set area for the stress-free zone, but it will generally be in the entrance lobby of the library.  There will be a photo booth, also, for taking selfies and pictures with friends.

Happy Final Exam week!
